Padung Jumpan
Dancer
Padung Jumpan is a core dancer and performer at Pichet Klunchun Dance Company (PKDC), known for his ability to bridge Thai classical dance and contemporary movement with precision and emotional depth. Trained under Pichet Klunchun’s Number 60 system—a conceptual framework that reimagines Khon (Thai masked dance) for the context of global contemporary performance—Padung has developed a unique choreographic language grounded in both tradition and innovation.
He has played a central role in several of PKDC’s most acclaimed productions, including:
- Cyber Subin (2022–ongoing): A cutting-edge performance that explores identity and embodiment through the fictional character “Subin,” developed with AI and digital technology to merge Thai traditional dance with cyber aesthetics.
- Dancing with Death (2016): A piece that examines the intersection of performance and existential reflection.
- Tam Kai (2013): A work that questions cultural heritage and the evolving meaning of traditional art.
- Black and White (2011): A duet performance exploring duality and balance within choreographic form and meaning.
- Nijinsky Siam (2010): A cross-cultural investigation into the body, tradition, and legacy, inspired by the spirit of Vaslav Nijinsky through a Thai lens.
Padung has represented PKDC on international stages, performing at major arts festivals and exchange programs including Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Belgium), Tanzkongress (Germany), and Esplanade Theatres on the Bay (Singapore). His style reflects a dynamic interplay between physical power, refined technique, and an expressive depth that brings both myth and modernity to life.
