Kornkarn Rungsawang

Artistic Secretary & Dancer

Kornkarn Rungsawang is a dancer and artistic secretary whose work bridges traditional Thai dance with contemporary movement practices. She began her formal training at the College of Dramatic Arts, Bangkok (2002–2006), where she specialized in both court and folk dance traditions. She later earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music and Performing Arts from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Burapha University.

Kornkarn’s choreographic voice is defined by her ability to interweave traditional Thai movement with contemporary rhythms, reflecting both cultural heritage and current societal landscapes.

Since 2007, she has been a core dancer with Pichet Klunchun Dance Company, where she trained intensively under Pichet Klunchun. Her dedication and evolving artistry led to her receiving a prestigious grant from the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) in 2017 to participate in the International Choreographers Residency at the American Dance Festival. This opportunity expanded her international exposure and deepened her exploration of Thai dance in a global context.

PKDC Productions featuring Kornkarn Rungsawang:

  • No.60 (2020): A performance structured around Pichet Klunchun’s unique choreographic system, translating Thai classical movement into contemporary language.
  • Dancing with Death (2016): A piece that examines the intersection of performance and existential reflection.
  • Tam Kai (2013): A work that questions cultural heritage and the evolving meaning of traditional art.
  • Black and White (2011): A duet performance exploring duality and balance within choreographic form and meaning.

One of her most notable solo works is “Mali Bucha: Dance Offering”, a performance that has toured internationally and continues to evolve. It debuted online in Bangkok (2021) and has since been presented at Dance Nucleus in Singapore’s Esplanade Theatres on the Bay (2022), Tanzkongress Mainz, Germany (2022), Jakarta Dance Festival, Indonesia (2022), Tjimor Arts Festival, Taiwan (2023), and most recently through support from Esplanade Singapore, in collaboration with Toyooka Theatre Festival and Kinosaki International Arts Center in Japan (2024), ahead of an upcoming Asia tour.

As both a performer and an artist, Kornkarn represents a new generation of Thai contemporary artists who carry forward traditional forms while reimagining them for global audiences. Her practice illustrates how Thai dance can move with the times—without losing its soul.
