Why trained with PKDC?
At the heart of PKDC’s training lies Khon, the traditional Thai masked performance regarded as one of Thailand’s most refined and symbolic art forms. Khon features four main archetypes — the hero, the heroine, the giant, and the monkey — each with distinct physical expressions, energies, and movement vocabularies.
Training in Khon is not only a physical discipline but also a cultural and philosophical entry point into Thai values, belief systems, and storytelling structures. Through learning Khon, participants gain a deeper understanding of Thai worldview and aesthetic foundations.
At PKDC, this traditional system is re-examined and re-contextualized through a contemporary lens. Our dancers integrate Khon’s rigorous form with personal experience, creative inquiry, and contemporary movement principles. This hybrid approach provides a unique framework for exploring the body, identity, and artistic expression.
Who Can Join:
- Dancers, choreographers, performing artists (all levels welcome)
- Educators, researchers, or students in the performing arts
- Anyone interested in deepening their understanding of Thai movement arts — no dance background required.
Fees and Funding:
- PKDC is an independent, self-sustaining dance company. All training participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, and training fees. Though if you need accommodation recommendation, please let us know.
- Our fee structure for private class is at 1,500 THB for 1 hour — we aim to make this experience accessible while supporting our dancers and company operations. For group training, please inquire. Costs may vary depending on the length of training, number of participants, and proposed learning focus.
- If you are applying for external funding, PKDC can issue a letter of invitation and discuss ways to align your training proposal with grant or institutional goals.
